New Town, Old Friends

Today we went to Safeco Field in Seattle but the highlight wasn't seeing the game or the stadium. We were lucky that our old friends from the Hurricanes games, Erich and Jackie (with their kids Cam and Blake), were around to meet us at the game. It was just like old times with all of us sitting together for a sporting event...sure, it wasn't the Stanley Cup Playoffs but it didn't matter since we all spent the entire game chatting and catching up. They sat next to Jess in PNC Arena for 7 seasons, including the Cup year so we got to know them pretty well and got to see their kids grow up. Because of a job, they moved to the Seattle area 4 years ago and we only run into them on occasion at a Canes game and even then it's only one or two at a time so it was great to see the whole family at once.

The Mariners beat the Astros 1-0 (the second time I've seen the Mariners win 1-0 in this stadium - which are my only two visits) and the weather turned out very nice since it was partly cloudy and about 70 degrees. After the game, we had ideas of going to see Snoqualmie Falls or going to the casino but since it took us forever to get out of the city, once we ate we realized that we're pretty burned out. A quiet evening in our hotel was nice before we take the ferry to San Juan Island on Sunday afternoon.

It'll be great to spend the next week in one place with Steve, Cindy and Leah in what everyone says is a beautiful place. Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to have any internet access until next Sunday so that's probably the end of the blog for now. We'll try to catch everyone up on the last week of our trip once we get back to NC.

As they say in Seattle, "I'm so happy we won the World Series!" Note: no one says this. Because it's never happened.
